Case Study: Respiratory Monitoring
Real Time Patient Tracking Dashboard for Hospital Respiratory Care
The Challenge
Before the platform was developed, respiratory assistants had limited visibility into patient data across multiple machines and rooms.
Data was available only at the bedside, requiring specialists to move physically between patients to assess status. There was no centralized system to monitor trends, compare patients, or receive alerts when metrics changed. This made it difficult to proactively respond to patient needs and increased the operational burden on respiratory teams.
The Outcome
After implementing the platform, respiratory assistants could monitor multiple patients simultaneously from a single dashboard.
Data from respiratory machines is streamed securely from devices installed in the hospital to the cloud. The dashboard displays real time metrics for each patient, allowing specialists to quickly identify changes in condition. Thresholds can be configured so the system automatically notifies clinicians when measurements exceed predefined limits, enabling faster intervention.
How We Helped
Onward Development partnered with the client to design and implement a real time monitoring platform aligned with hospital environments and federal funding requirements.
We built a secure ingestion pipeline using AWS IoT Core to stream data from respiratory machines into the cloud. On top of this infrastructure, we developed a clinician dashboard optimized for monitoring multiple patients, configuring alerts, and supporting real time decision making.
Key Outcomes
Enabled real time monitoring of multiple respiratory patients from a single interface
Reduced the need for manual bedside checks
Improved response time through automated alerts and thresholds
Created a scalable cloud architecture suitable for hospital deployment
Met federal funding and healthcare data handling requirements
